    Course Description

    The Physical Education program is designed to create and maintain physical and mental fitness, to develop a basic knowledge of skills, strategies, sportsmanship and personal cleanliness, to encourage growth through interaction with others in individual and team activities, and to develop leadership skills.  Students will also develop accountability for measuring and evaluating their own fitness level. 

     

    Uniform Requirement

    • All PE students must have proper athletic footwear on PE days. It is suggested to wear athletic clothing (t-shirt, sweatshirt, shorts, or sweatpants). Weather permitting students should be ready for indoor or outdoor activities.

     

    Evaluation/Performance Requirements

    Each student begins a marking period with 100 points which equals an A+. 

    • Preparation / Participation:  50% of marking period average

    Preparation for PE consists of having proper phys ed attire. All clothing must also adhere to school district dress code policy. Being unprepared for class will result in five (5) points deducted from the 100 point total preparation. Each student is required to show consistent effort and participation in all physical education classes.  A student that does not participate in class instruction, or demonstrates a lack of sportsmanship or cooperation, will have five (5) points deducted from the 100 point total for Participation.

                                                                                                                                  

    • Behavior: 50% of marking period average

    Behavior in physical education is very important. Maintaining a safe and educational atmosphere is critical to student growth. Students must respect the rules of the classroom, expectations of the activity, and respect other classmates and teachers.

                                  

     Course Expectations

    • Demonstrate a general knowledge of rules or sports and activities
    • Demonstrate skills necessary to participate in the various sports and activities
    • Develop strength, flexibility, and resistance to fatigue in large muscle groups
    • Develop cardiovascular efficiency through aerobic activities
    • Gain self-confidence as a result of being physically fit
    • Develop coordination through repetition of skills
    • Learn to play as a cooperating member of a team
    • Follow all safety guidelines to ensure the safety of yourself and your classmates.

     

     Activities

    Listed below are some examples of activities that may be taught throughout the year.

    • Soccer
    • Football
    • Basketball
    • Badminton
    • Volleyball
    • Speedball
    • Hockey
    • Physical fitness testing
    • Aerobic activities
    • Weight training activities
    • Softball
    • Group Games (kickball, wiffle ball)

     

    Student responsibilities regarding Excused/Unexcused Excuses

    Students can only be excused from participation if they submit an excuse written by a parent/guardian or a medical doctor.  Students with long-term medical excuses will be expected to complete a weekly written assignment for class credit.  It is the responsibility of the student to obtain assignments from grading teachers. 

     

    An excuse written by a parent must include a phone number where the parent can be reached for verification.

    A parent note can only be used for 1 excused absence, after a doctors note will be needed.
